TAWAU: Many Sabahan students struggle with the high cost of living outside the state, says PERIKATAN NASIONAL (PN) candidate for DUN Balung, Dr. Munzier Mahamud.
“When there’s an urgent need that requires them to ‘fly’, finances become a problem,” he said.
Therefore, PN through its Kasi Bagus Sabah offer in this State Election is providing the Mahasiswa Sayang Sabah (MSS) Flight Subsidy, amounting to RM1,000 annually for each Sabahan studying in higher education institutions (IPT) in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
With this subsidy, students can manage important matters involving flight expenses without affecting their food budget, rental payments or tuition fees.
“I genuinely want Sabahan children, especially in Balung, to study in peace, without being burdened by financial issues. Whatever we can help ease, we will help.
“Whether they want to return home during festive seasons, visit their parents or handle family emergencies, all these will no longer be a problem. Don’t be hindered by flight costs anymore. We will find a way,” he added.
He further stated that if PN is given the opportunity to govern the state, the student flight subsidy manifesto will be implemented for the benefit of the people of Sabah.
“Kasi Bagus Sabah! I don’t want schoolchildren in Balung to drop out because of poverty, unpaid school fees, lack of digital learning exposure, lack of transport to school and so on,” he said.
Therefore, he added, PN is also allocating RM300 million for the Dana Didik Sabah (Sabah Education Fund) under its offerings.
“This is among the Kasi Bagus Sabah policies that will greatly benefit all Sabahans in addressing educational inequality.
“With this, Sabah and Balung children will no longer have to drop out of school,” he said.
Dr. Munzier added that this initiative will allow them to focus on studying, achieve their ambitions and build success, ultimately giving them the chance to improve their family’s livelihood.
“Let’s open the door to fairer educational opportunities for all Sabahan children,” he said.
“If PERIKATAN NASIONAL is given the mandate to govern, the RM300 million Dana Didik Sabah manifesto will be implemented for the benefit of the people of Sabah,” he added. – HARAKAHDAILY 24/11/2025
