SRI LANKA: PAS, through its International Relations and Foreign Affairs Committee, has made an official visit to Jamaat Islami Sri Lanka as a reciprocal engagement to strengthen bilateral relations between the two Islamic movements.
The PAS delegation was led by the Chairman of the International Relations and Foreign Affairs Committee, Ustaz Dr. Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, who met with the leader of Jamaat Islami Sri Lanka, Ash-Sheikh M H M Ussair Islahi.
Jamaat Islami Sri Lanka was founded in 1954 by Jailani Sahib, a Muslim trader from southern India who was educated under Maulana Abu Al’ala al-Maududi.
This sole Islamic movement in Sri Lanka officially operates as a charitable organization involved in education, skills training, and da’wah (Islamic outreach).
Its main focus is on uplifting the local Muslim community, which is a minority—making up around 10 percent of Sri Lanka’s 22 million population—consisting of the Moor and Malay ethnic groups.
“May this visit continue to strengthen the bonds of Islamic brotherhood and da’wah cooperation between PAS and Jamaat Islami Sri Lanka,” said Khalil, who is also an Executive Council member of the Terengganu State Government.
Two months ago, a delegation from Jamaat Islami Sri Lanka visited Malaysia and met with PAS in Kelantan and Terengganu. – HARAKAHDAILY, 13/7/2025
