KUALA LUMPUR: The Chairman of BN Sabah, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, has been described as a ‘red flag’ in the state’s politics that voters should be cautious of, following his appearance on SuaraTV’s Jam Kesebelas podcast recently.
According to the Director of Research and Policy, PAS Central Information Committee, Ir Ts Nurul Islam Mohamed Yusoff, almost half of the session was filled with discussions on personal interests and political positions, rather than policies or offers for the people of Sabah.
“He openly admitted being upset because the promise of the Public Works portfolio was not fulfilled, and instead he was given Local Government. He also raised the issue of GLC board appointments, saying that the names he submitted from Umno were rejected while GRS nominees were accepted. Similarly, he claimed there was no allocation for Umno’s small projects, yet funds were available for GRS,” Nurul Islam said.
He added that what was most disappointing was Bung Moktar’s failure to address basic infrastructure issues in Sabah such as roads, water and electricity, choosing instead to elaborate on Umno’s internal politics and declining membership.
“When asked by the moderator about Sabah’s infrastructure problems, his answers went on about party politics. The rakyat’s hardship issues were not touched at all,” he explained.
Nurul Islam also criticised Bung Moktar for attacking the government’s award of 70,000 acres of mineral land to an individual, without mentioning that the recipient was in fact a former Political Secretary to Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“He conveniently forgot that PMX’s party was also his partner during the Sabah state elections,” he quipped.
He therefore urged Sabah voters to be more discerning in evaluating leaders who prioritise positions, appointments, and projects rather than the welfare of the people.
“Radu tatap radu, radu sampai rata, choose wisely, choose leaders who care for the rakyat, not those obsessed with power,” he stressed. – HARAKAHDAILY 9/9/2025
