KUALA LUMPUR – A new and just world can happen if there is an understanding of law that is integrated with values, beliefs, conscience and morals.
Speaker of Turkiye’s Grand National Assembly (Parliament) Prof Dr Mustafa Sentop said looking at the national and global problems happening today, it is certain that the lack of law and justice, and the inability of the law to provide justice were the main reason for this.
“The perception and establishment of law as a system isolated from belief, metaphysics, morality, conscience and values, perhaps more inclusively, from culture, has brought our world to this point. Today, in the war between Russia and Ukraine, we repeat on many occasions that international law has been violated.
“But, how right and effective can it be for those who do not mind breaking the law when it comes to their interests when international law and law have been mutilated and trampled upon all over the world for nearly half a century now to talk about breaking the law?
“I think that discussions about the perception of law are significant at a time when searches are intensified in every field,” said Sentop in his speech titled “Two Different Worlds – Two Different Perceptions of Law” at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)’s World Professional Lecture (IPWL) held here, today.
Turkiye Ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yuksel and IIUM Rector Tan Sri Datuk Dzulkifli Abdul Razak were also present at the lecture.
Later today, Sentop had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara, where he and his delegation were welcomed by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun.
Sentop, is on a three-day official visit to Malaysia and will depart for home today.
