RABAT – In a powerful display of solidarity with Palestinians, tens of thousands of Moroccans gathered in the cities of Tangier and Casablanca on Sunday to voice their opposition to the normalization of ties with Israel.
The marches were marked by strong support for Palestinians in Gaza, who have endured enormous damage due to Israeli military airstrikes.
The Tangier rally, supported by various civil organizations, including the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization, drew participants carrying both Palestinian and Moroccan flags.
Images of Al-Aqsa mosque and victims of the Israeli onslaught in Gaza were prominently displayed.
The demonstrators highlighted the role of “resistance” in securing the release of Palestinian women prisoners and called for the closure of the Israeli communication office in Rabat.
Chanting slogans such as “a salute of struggle to resilient Gaza,” “the people want to overthrow normalization,” and “heading to Jerusalem, with millions of martyrs,” the participants conveyed their commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause.
In Casablanca, another massive demonstration, organized by the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization, attracted tens of thousands of Moroccans.
Similar to the Tangier rally, protesters carried images of Al-Aqsa and victims of Israeli aggression in Gaza.
The crowd voiced their opposition to the normalization of relations with Israel, chanting slogans such as “the people of Morocco for Al-Aqsa… with the flood of Al-Aqsa” and “Gaza, Gaza… symbol of pride.”
Demonstrators expressed their solidarity with the resistance, praising its ability to “impose conditions” in the temporary humanitarian pause agreement reached by Hamas with Israel.
It’s important to note that Morocco and Israel reestablished diplomatic relations in December 2020, a move that faced opposition from various segments of the Moroccan population.
The recent protests underscore the continued public resistance to the normalization process.
