JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry responded to the allegation made by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on the Indonesia Hospital in North Gaza, stating that the facility is for humanitarian purposes.
The ministry’s spokesperson Lalu Muhamad Iqbal in a statement said the facility, which was built using Indonesian charity funds, serves the medical needs of Palestinians in the region.
His statement came in response to the allegation by the IDF that Hamas is using hospitals in Gaza, including the Indonesia Hospital, for underground operations, as reported by Arab News.
According to Lalu, Palestinian authorities in Gaza are currently responsible for managing the hospital with help from Indonesian volunteers from time to time.
In fact, the Indonesia Hospital is one of the few operational healthcare facilities in Gaza, even in the face of rising casualties resulting from daily Israeli attacks.
“The hospital is currently treating patients well beyond its capacity,” he said.
On the three Indonesian volunteers at the hospital, Lalu said they – who had deliberately chosen not to be evacuated by the government – are in good health.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has consistently expressed condemnation and called for an immediate cessation of attacks on civilian targets, particularly humanitarian facilities such as hospitals in Gaza.- Bernama
