
KUALA LUMPUR – Morocco’s King Mohammed VI visited earthquake victims at “Mohammed VI” University Hospital in Marrakech on Tuesday.
He also donated his blood for victims of the 7-magnitude Al-Haouz earthquake that hit the country last Friday (Sept 8).
According to text shared by the Morocco embassy via WhatsApp in Kuala Lumpur, His Highness enquired about the state of the wounded.
“This royal initiative of great moral support to the injured and their families reinforces the various initiatives and measures taken, in accordance with the High Royal Instructions to rescue, assist and support those affected by the earthquake.”
Some 2,171 victims were admitted to hospitals in the Marrakech-Safi region, including 484 with major injuries and 1,570 with minor ones. A total of 248 of them remain hospitalised.
During the visit, King Mohammed VI donated his blood, a gesture that expresses His Highness’ full solidarity and compassion to his people in times of hardship and misfortune.
In a statement on Monday, Morocco’s Interior Ministry said the death toll from the earthquake that jolted the North African country late Friday had increased to 2,854 people.
It was the strongest to hit Morocco in the last century, according to its National Geophysical Institute. – Bernama
