Rakyat Sarawak masih memerlukan subsidi elektrik

The people of Sarawak still need electricity subsidies

Many electricity users in Sarawak are complaining about receiving high bills due to no longer receiving the 25 percent discount (subsidy) they received before.

The Sarawak government needs to continue subsidising five to 25 percent of electricity bills for domestic, commercial, and industrial users until the end of this year. Consumers, especially those in the B40 and low-income groups, need to be given attention given that the current economic situation is still not stable and the prices of essential goods are still high. Many domestic users, especially the B40 group and those with no fixed income, complain about this problem. They really hope that the Sarawak government can pay attention and continue to subsidise electricity bills by 25 percent for affected consumers.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he is very confident that Sarawak’s income will increase this year (2023) even more than in 2022.

According to him, Sarawak’s income will reach RM5 billion in the first quarter of 2023, while in 2022, the state’s income will increase to almost RM12 billion, compared to RM7.62 billion in 2021.

With this increase in income, Sarawakians should also be able to enjoy the results of subsidies targeted at Sarawakians, especially those with low incomes.

We sincerely hope that the Sarawak government can continue providing the 25 percent subsidy so that low-income people can live more stably and at least be able to ease the burden of the people of Sarawak at this time.

We are confident that the Sarawak government is still able to subsidise low-income groups with the increase in its income.

We request that this problem receive due attention from the Sarawak government for the well-being of the people of Sarawak.

Cooperation with the Sarawak government to overcome the problems of the people is greatly appreciated.
