SHAH ALAM – Wedding gifts to be presented to the bride and groom are usually made of fresh flowers or fruits that are artistically arranged on a tray.

But Norzianah Mohd Jani, 48, decided to use over 10 types of dried fruits such as dates, apricots, mangoes, pineapple and figs beautifully placed in baskets or plates as wedding or corporate gifts .

The owner of the Serai Rimbun gift outlet said she was clearing the stock of dried fruits in 2010 when she thought of the idea of using them as gifts on a plate and since then, the demand had been increasing.

“We also turn the arrangement into works of art according to our customer’s requests. I didn’t expect that it would be well-received,” she told Bernama when met at her kiosk at SACC Mall, here.

Norzianah said that the composition was not only a feast for the eyes, thanks to the combination of various types of colourful dried fruits, but it had a longer shelf life of up to six months compared to flowers or fresh fruits.

In ensuring the freshness of the composition, she said each piece of dried fruit was also wrapped in plastic before arranging according to the customer’s requests.

She said she received up to 60 bookings per month for various types of events such as weddings and corporate events.

“Customers need to place an order two weeks in advance before their event. A composition usually needs three to four workers and takes an hour to two to complete,” said Norzianah who has been in the business since 2008.

Depending on the orders, the price ranges from RM60 to RM1,000 but customers can place orders based on their budget and taste.

“The composition is according to the customer’s budget but we will try to spruce up the basket with all the dried fruits available,” she said. – Bernama
