The 14-day campaign period for the Kemaman by-election is set to extend from today until 11.59 pm on Dec 1.

On Monday, the BN announced the candidacy of former Chief of Defence Forces Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, 66, while PAS is putting forward Terengganu Menteri Besar Dato Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar to defend the seat. In contrast, Pejuang declared its decision not to field a candidate for this particular seat.

A total of 141,790 voters, including 387 police personnel, nine military personnel, and 12 absent voters, are expected to cast their ballots in the by-election. This electoral event arises following the nullification by the Terengganu Election Court of the victory of Che Alias Hamid of PAS, who had been declared the winner of the Kemaman parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15) last year.

Che Alias secured 65,714 votes in the four-cornered battle, surpassing Dato Seri Ahmad Said of BN (38,535), Hasuni Sudin of Pakatan Harapan (8,340), and Rosli Ab Ghani of Pejuang (506).

Director of the Terengganu Meteorological Department, Rosli Zakaria, urged those involved in the nomination process to remain vigilant regarding the weather and changing environment, as rain is anticipated in Kemaman from morning to evening.
