Terengganu: Number of flood evacuees on the rise

KUALA TERENGGANU – The flood disaster wreaking havoc in Terengganu has intensified for the second consecutive day. The number of victims has surged to 1,482, encompassing 410 families, as of 10 o’clock this morning.

Fourteen temporary evacuation centers (PPS) are now operational across four districts, with seven in Kuala Nerus, four in Kuala Terengganu, two in Setiu, and one in Marang.

The Secretariat of the Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee, in a recent statement, disclosed that the district with the highest number of victims currently is Kuala Nerus, where 722 people from 193 families have sought refuge.

Seven PPS facilities, including the Tok Jembal Multi-Purpose Hall, Batin Perdana Flat Hall, Teluk Ketapang National School, Bukit Nenas SK, Bukit Tunggal SK, Chess Wakaf Multi-Purpose Hall, and Banggol Tok Jiring Hall, are accommodating those affected.

In Kuala Terengganu, a total of 602 victims from 179 families are being housed in four PPS facilities, namely SK Chendering, SK Atas Tol, SK Pasir Panjang, and SK Gong Tok Nasek.

Setiu has two operational PPS centers, namely Kampung Bintang Balairaya and Kampung Bari Besar Balairaya, providing shelter to 26 victims from six families.

In Marang, a new PPS has been established to accommodate 132 victims from 32 families in SK Bukit Gasing.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) issued a weather forecast predicting continuous rainfall in Terengganu, with a warning and caution in effect until this Thursday.
