KUALA LUMPUR – International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF) has approved the new counting system of 15-points per set instead of 21-points for all sepak takraw tournaments and competitions effective Feb 2, next year.
ISTAF secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Kader said the decision was made during the World Sepak Takraw Championship 36th Thai King’s Cup 2023 meeting on July 15.
“ISTAF decided and approved the use of the new counting system to be implemented effective Feb 2, 2024 (six months from the approval date) for all sepak takraw tournaments.
“This is to give ample time for the players and teams to adjust and adapt to remain competitive at all levels of competition,” he said in a statement.
In the meantime, Abdul Halim who is also the Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) president, said ISTAF rejected the proposed implementation of the new system at the Hangzhou Asian Games because the Games is just 10 days away, which would be unfair to players and teams.
He added that all major changes in the rules of sepak takraw games should only be adopted after six months from the acceptance and approval of the proposal.- Bernama
