KUALA TERENGGANU – Continental team Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team (TSG) is confident of being able to retain the Asian champion title in the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) ranking this year.

With only 10 tournaments remaining before 2023 season ends on Oct 25, the Kuala Terengganu-based TSG is also optimistic of making history as the continental best team.

TSG chief operating officer Nasiruddin Wan Idrus said that the confidence was based on the team’s performance which is currently dominating the ranks among teams from Asia as well as the best in the continent, followed closely by its challenger, Medellin team from Columbia.

“Currently, TSG is leading 51 teams from Asia and 179 teams at the continental-level. As for the world ranking we are presently placed 32 out of 220 teams.

“We will try to retain our position until the end of the season. There are still 10 UCI tournaments including in Europe, China and Japan which are rated 2.1, 2.0 dan 2.2, to collect as many points as possible,” he said when met yesterday.

Apart from that, Nasruddin said that TSG is currently making thorough preparations to face the prestigious race in the country, Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) which is rated 2.0, scheduled to be held next month.

He said six riders – three locals and three imports – will race for the team to meet the target of at least one podium and retain one of two jerseys won last year.

“Before LTdL, we have a race to compete in Iran as a final preparation. There is a slight change in terms of the target.

“The list of six riders will be announced on Sept 2,” he said. – Bernama
