
IPOH – The 2023 International Okinawa Goju-Ryu Ipoh Open Karate Championships scheduled from May 12 to 14 has targetted 1,500 local and international participants.
Organising Chairman Datuk Dr Jasvinder Singh said the championships, organised by the Perak Karate Do Association, Perak State Sports Council and Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate Federation, will be held at the Ipoh City Council Badminton Arena in Ipoh.
“Every year, the response and participation for the championships keep increasing and this year we have already received 1,000 participants from all over the country. We expect more to confirm.
“The Perak MSN has been supporting the championships and has provided all the encouragement to organise the international championships. Others offering support are Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR), MBI and Cosmopoint College Ipoh,” said Jasvinder at the Perak MSN Podium programme, here today.
Jasvinder said karate exponents from other countries, namely India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand Brunei, Singapore, South Africa and Uzbekistan will also be participating.
“The participants will compete in two main categories – Kata and Kumite – in the championships being held for the 19th year which also serves as a platform for young and new talents to showcase their ability.
“The two main categories will feature 36 different categories for Children, Cadet and Junior, Senior and Senior Above including about 500 exponents from overseas,” he said. – Bernama
