SANDAKAN – New maahad tahfiz (religious schools) are reminded to register with the state religious authorities to facilitate the coordination of aid from the federal government, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary.
This (aid) includes allocation assistance to launch the operation of the school.
“Alhamdulillah, the Islamic Development Department Malaysia (JAKIM) is helping to set up tahfiz centres that will produce children who memorise the Qur’an.
“Therefore, this year, the government has allocated RM140 million to be distributed nationwide to help in terms of infrastructure and construction of tahfiz buildings, and part of the allocation to be spent on managing the maahad tahfiz itself,” he told reporters after officiating the Maahad Tahfiz Al-Qur’an Wadi Syuib in Kampung Bonggaya Baru, Batu Sapi, near here, today.
Ahmad Marzuk also expressed the hope that the maahad tahfiz would emphasise the aspect of progress in academics, apart from memorising the Qur’an and deepening religious knowledge, so that maahad tahfiz graduates will also be competent and can contribute to the country.
At the event, Ahmad Marzuk donated RM20,000 to Maahad Tahfiz Al-Qur’an Wadi Syuib to complete equipping the school with facilities so that it will operate well.
The maahad tahfiz building was completed in six months by the residents of Kampung Bonggaya Baru with the support of JAKIM and the Sekong Community Development Leaders Unit. The school began operations in November, last year, with 70 students from around the Batu Sapi area.
