KUALA LUMPUR – Out of sight but not out of mind, is probably the closest one can describe the feelings of children who are forced to celebrate Mother’s Day today away from the queens of their heart due to the restrictions on interstate and interdistrict movements in the country implemented to curb the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.
During these desperate times, people are finding various ways to celebrate this special occasion with their special people despite being separated by distance, such as hiring surprise planners to make personalised bouquet deliveries to their loved ones.
Bank officer, Suhaila Mohd Saidi, 40 who is residing in Gombak, opted for a delivery of a bouquet of flowers and yellow glutinous rice for her mother in Kampung Pak Katak, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu to celebrate the special day.
Suhaila said her three siblings who are staying in Selangor, Melaka and Perak also could not return home to celebrate Mother’s Day with their mother.
She said Mother’s Day is a special occasion that holds deep meaning to her and her siblings as they would normally celebrate it together in a big way.
She said the last time she visited her mother was in December last year, adding this year was the second year she could not return home to celebrate Aidilfitri with her.
Apart from the surprise delivery, Suhaila and her siblings also made a video call to find out how their mother is doing and wish her well on this auspicious day.
A surprise planner, Siti Radziah Abdul Razak, 38, said she received various special gift orders from customers since last Tuesday, to be delivered to their respective mothers in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor in conjunction with Mother’s Day celebration today.
“During my six years in this business, the thing I like the most is when writing greeting cards for customers because as a mother I am very moved to read the wishes of each of my customer to their mother,” she told Bernama.
The small business owner said these undying expressions of love motivated her to produce the best flower bouquets to be delivered to her customers’ loved ones, adding she received close to 50 orders of personalised flower and chocolate bouquets from her customers on Instagram.
