KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) through the National Library of Malaysia (PNM) continues to empower digital library services via u-Pustaka which was first introduced in 2011.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said u-Pustaka membership registration was increasing every year and as of Oct 30 this year, a total of 515,477 Malaysians have registered as u-Pustaka members.
“The u-Pustaka service that offers 13.2 million free digital reading materials can be accessed at anytime and anywhere at www.u-pustaka.gov.my,” she said in a statement today.
Nancy said as of Dec 2019, PNM through u-Pustaka had digitalised 1.7 million pages of local content such as Malay manuscripts, rare books, national collections and local newspapers.
“The u-Pustaka service helps support life-long learning and improve social and economic development by providing electronic reading materials especially during the current unstable economic situation due to the spread of COVID-19,” she added.
She also hoped that the u-Pustaka service would facilitate sharing and transmission of information among the public, as well as support the Jalinan Digital Negara initiative.
