SEREMBAN – Being a wheelchair user does not hinder military personnel Corporal Raja Nur Izzati Raja Ali, 30, from participating in the democratic process as an early voter at the Sendayan Air Base today.
Raja Nur Izzati said despite facing health challenges, she was determined to fulfil her civic duty and elect a leader who could steer the state in the future.
“This is my second time voting here. Alhamdulillah, the early voting process went smoothly with the assistance of Election Commission (EC) officers on duty. I encourage all Malaysians to fulfil their obligation to vote,” she told reporters here.
Raja Nur Izzati, who works in the camp’s administration, said that three years ago she had a motorbike accident on a break, in which she sustained injuries to her waist, hip and shoulders.
Meanwhile, Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Captain Mohd Akmal Juhafiq Jumani, 32, was also present to cast his vote despite being on crutches due to an accident when he returned to his village in Perak last May.
“I never missed out on voting. Though I’m not well, I’m still motivated. As a frontline officer, I don’t feel right if I don’t go out to fulfil my responsibilities for the country,” said Mohd Akmal, who is attached to the Air Force Education and Training Division at the camp.
A total of 907 military personnel are registered early voters at the Sendayan Air Base.
The EC has set Aug 12 as the polling date for the state elections in Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan, with early voting today. – Bernama
