New Roma midfielder Nemanja Matić said it took just five minutes for coach José Mourinho to convince him to make the move.

The former Serbia international joined on a free transfer earlier this summer after his contract at Manchester United expired.

And Matić said it didn’t take much for Mourinho to convince him to join Roma and work at a third club with the Portuguese coach.

Matić told Il Messaggero: “After [Frank] Lampard, I am the midfielder who has played the most matches under him.

“He convinced me in less than five minutes to join Roma: when I left United, he called me and I immediately said yes.

“Mou has something extra which motivates you and drives you on. I’ve never seen him satisfied, when he wins he is already thinking about the next day. He is the first to be hungry for success.”

Matić, 33, also praised the signing of Paulo Dybala on a free transfer and compared the Argentina forward to a former United team-mate of his.

He added: “He will bring the extra quality necessary to make the big leap forward. I have faced him as an opponent and know how difficult he can be.

“He reminds me of [Juan] Mata when he was at his best, the Mata who won the World Cup and Euros with Spain.”

Matić first played under Mourinho during the second spell at the club for both men.

Mourinho brought the midfielder back to Stamford Bridge in 2014 and he played an integral role on that season’s title success.

The pair were reunited at United in Mourinho’s second season at Old Trafford in 2017 but failed to add anymore silverware.
