LONDON – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he is ready to step down after being urged by various quarters to step down immediately if he does not want politics in the country to ‘unstable’.

Earlier, Johnson had reiterated his stance that he would not resign even though more and more ministers left in his Cabinet.

In fact, the leader said he will continue to ‘fight’ to maintain his position in the government.

According to sources, several Cabinet ministers met Johnson in Downing Street urging him to step down, after more than 30 resignations from within the government and many Conservative MPs ‘openly rebelled’.

One of the ministers asked him to step down with dignity by deciding when he would resign instead of facing a no-confidence vote.

England and Wales Attorney General Suella Braverman also urged Johnson to resign and become the first Cabinet member to announce a candidate to replace him in any leadership election in the Conservative party.

“I believe it is time for the Prime Minister to step down. If there is an election, I will run,” Braverman told ITV, adding that he would not resign as a lawyer.

Johnson faced various criticisms over his integrity after he had to apologize for appointing an MP to a position involving religious issues without realizing the individual was embroiled in allegations of sexual misconduct.

The appointment was the latest crisis in the Johnson administration after he was plagued by scandals as well as mistakes, including involvement in parties at residences and Downing Street during the Covid-19 curfew.

Earlier, Johnson fired senior minister Michael Gove who allegedly asked him to resign and yesterday, Welsh Secretary of State Simon Hart resigned.
