KOTA BHARU – Kelantan United Football Club (KUFC) president Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi is satisfied with his team’s achievement in this season’s Malaysia League (M-League) competition despite the club being formed just three years ago.

“Our 2020 M-League season is over. Alhamdulillah, KUFC have managed to end it successfully, although we did not achieve all that we targeted (promotion to the Super League).

“After emerging as M3 League champions last year, we earned promotion to the Premier League this season on merit and managed to retain our spot in the league for next season.

“We also managed to finish among the 16 best teams to qualify for the Malaysia Cup competition,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

This season, KUFC finished eighth in the Premier League to qualify for the Malaysia Cup competition, where they lost to Perak FA in the first round on Nov 6.

Che Abdullah said that as a new team, KUFC were on the right track to creating a brighter future and compete in the top-tier Super League in the near future.

“Although we did not meet our target, the success of KUFC in qualifying for the Malaysia Cup for the first time in its history is already a great achievement for everyone involved with the club, especially since many did not fancy our chances,” he said.

He was also quick to thank the team management as well as the officials, panel of coaches and players for their contributions throughout the season.

“Thanks also to the government of Kelantan, our sponsors and supporters for always being there for the team, whether we won or lost, and for encouraging our team officials and players as well helping us financially with sponsorship and purchasing official club merchandise.

“With the support of all parties, Insya-Allah this team will go on to do even better in 2021,” he said.
