KUALA TERENGGANU – Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) has contributed RM21 million for the Terengganu state government’s environmental and community wellbeing initiative programmes held between 2015 and 2020.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the contribution is facilitated by a joint working committee between the state government and the national oil company.

“Through the cooperation, the company had spent RM15.5 million in 2019 on education and human capital development in Terengganu,” he told the State Assembly today.

Ahmad Samsuri was replying to the question by Hishamuddin Abdul Karim (PAS-Tepoh) on the role played by the state government in the joint working committee with PETRONAS to safeguard the interests of its people.

To Hishamuddin’s supplementary question on PETRONAS’ contributions to the state government in other forms other than its corporate social responsibility (CSR), Ahmad Samsuri said the state government is in talks with the company regarding the development of Terengganu Silica Valley in Marang, concerning a gas pipeline project from Santong in Dungun to Jambu Bongkok in Marang.

In a related matter, Ahmad Samsuri said as of the third quarter of 2019, 381 companies in Terengganu had already registered with PETRONAS.

This was facilitated by the formation of the Terengganu Petroleum Council (TPC) to, among others, bid for tenders issued by PETRONAS to ensure companies belonging to its people will be given priority, he added.
