TALINN, Estonia – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has made research the backbone of the university’s excellence, says Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.

He said the research carried out had led to new discoveries that could improve the quality of teaching and learning, as well as quality of life.

“At UniMAP there are two elements that can be obtained from quality research, namely ‘output’ and results,” he said during a programme with students at the Talinn Technical University (TALTECH) here today.

Also present was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr. Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who is the Pro-Chancellor of UniMAP.

Their Royal Highnesses’ prince Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra also attended the programme.

Earlier, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin – who is also UniMAP Chancellor – and the delegation of the 17th UniMAP Knowledge Tour were welcomed by TALTECH rector Prof. Tiit Land.

The delegation is on a tour to the Baltic countries (Latvia and Estonia) from Sept 10 to 17.

The Raja Muda of Perlis said that prior to this, UniMAP focused on output in three main areas, namely research publications, students and new knowledge.

UniMAP, he said, prioritised the impact or success of the research produced because it could benefit the community.

“Research starts with a real-world problem and the university conducts a study to find a solution to the problem,” he said.
