KOTA BHARU – A man’s creativity in transforming an old school bus into a sundry shop has not only given the vehicle a new life, but it has also become a crowd-puller for the premises in Kampung Tanjong Katong here.

Mohd Sofri Jusoh, 49, said the idea to convert the bus originated from a discussion with his brother Mohd Fauzi, 63, who is the owner of the vehicle.

“Originally, it was an old Ford school bus that could no longer be used. So instead of leaving it idle, we decided to turn it into a mini sundry shop.

“Alhamdulillah, with a few fresh ‘touches’ such as spray paint on the bus, it now has a different and unique look that draws passersby’s attention to our shop,” he told Bernama here today.

Mohd Sofri said he planned to add more items to his shop and move the bus to a more strategic spot near the village based on the positive response he received.

He also said that a few extra features had been added to the bus to provide comfort to his customers.

“I installed two fans, two exhaust fans, windows and a flexible main door and did some refurbishment work at a total cost of RM5,000 to provide good ventilation in the bus.

“I think this makeover idea is also a good way to save money on the cost of renting or building a new shop.

“It’s also a good platform for displaying our creative ‘work’ to the public,” said Mohd Sofri, adding that he once turned down a RM18,000 offer to buy the bus. – Bernama
