KOTA BHARU – The Kelantan government has channelled RM21.43 million so far to district officers for distribution to the victims of the recent monsoon floods in the state, said Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.

He said RM12.3 million of the sum was for the victims who were evacuated to relief centres, RM9.1 million for those who remained in their flooded homes and RM30,000 to the next-of-kin of those who died in the floods.

“The federal government channelled RM50 million to the Kelantan State Development Office (PPNK) through the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM).

“PKNK and ICU (JPM) held a meeting recently with the district officers to draw up a list of the victims to facilitate the aid distribution,” he said when replying to a question from Mohd Rodzi Ja’afar (PAS-Gaal) at the meeting of the State Legislative Assembly today.

Ahmad said the aid for the remaining flood victims would be distributed soon.

Replying to a question from Datuk Mohd Adhan Kechik (BN-Bukit Bunga) on the relationship between the federal and state governments after the 15th general election, Ahmad said Kelantan maintained good relations with the federal government and this enabled the joint implementation of several programmes.

“The programmes included the recent visits of unity government leaders, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to flood-stricken areas in Kelantan.

“Besides, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad co-chaired with me the State Development Action Council Special Meeting No. 1/2023,” he said. – Bernama
