NILAI — National track cyclist Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom hopes to work out a new cycling technique for the Asian Track Cycling Championship (ATCC) 2023 in New Delhi, India from June 18-22.

The 26-year-old cyclist said he would discuss this with his coach John Beasley next week.

“I have yet to meet him (John); he’ll only arrive in Malaysia next week. It’s good because when there is a championship here, I can test a new technique like trying to stay in front during a race.

“At the international level, it is hard to say (about main challengers) but my tactical approach helps a lot. I admit my weakness is not riding from the front but my forte is long sprint,” he added.

The Johor cyclist was speaking to reporters after winning the men’s keirin gold at the National Track Cycling Championship 2022 at the National Velodrome here today.

Selangor’s Muhammad Fadhil Zonis was second and Johor’s Muhammad Ridwan Shahrom third.

In the men’s elite 4,000 metres individual pursuit, Lim Chun Kiat of Sabah retained his gold in a time of four minutes 31.530 seconds, while Sarawak’s Muhammad Luqman Daniel Mohamad Roji was second in 4:40.391s and Mohamad Faiz Fakhri Omar of Perak third in 4:40.848s.
