KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s new daily COVID-19 cases are still well above the 5,000 mark with 5,720 new cases recorded today compared with 5,736 reported yesterday (Feb 2).
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 2,887,780 as of 12 noon today.
He said of the total new cases, 43 involved categories three, four and five while the rest involved categories one and two.
“Of total cases reported, 130 are imported cases and 5,590 are local transmissions while 114 cases required treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 56 of them needed respiratory assistance,” he said in a daily statement on the current COVID-19 situation.
Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 3,968 patients were reported to have recovered today, bringing the cumulative number of recovered cases thus far to 2,794,354.
He also said 15 new clusters were recorded with 332 clusters still active thus far.
The country’s infectivity rate (Rt) is currently at 1.14 with Perlis recording the highest Rt of 1.24, followed by Johor (1.20) and Penang (1.19) as of yesterday.
