ANKARA – An English Premier League match scheduled in London between Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers was postponed by the organisers Sunday due to a coronavirus outbreak and injuries in the Wolves squad.

“Wolves’ trip to Arsenal on Tuesday 28th December has been postponed, with [club manager] Bruno Lage having an insufficient number of players available to fulfil the fixture.

“A combination of positive COVID-19 test results and injuries led to Wolves requesting for the fixture to be postponed, which was accepted early to give supporters a two-day notice period,” Anadolu reported Wolverhampton Wanderers as saying in a statement.

The match will be rescheduled.

Earlier in the week, the English top-flight league postponed a Boxing Day match between Wolverhampton and Watford for the same reason.

Watford were unable to man enough players on the pitch due to a high number of COVID-19 cases within the team.

The league recently reverted to emergency COVID-19 measures, including protocols such as more frequent testing, wearing face coverings while indoors, and observing social distancing after a recent rise in infections across the UK.
