ANKARA – Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba withdrew from the France squad on Tuesday for a thigh injury in training.
“Due to a right thigh injury, Paul Pogba has had to withdraw from both upcoming games,” France said on Twitter.
The French national team added that head coach Didier Deschamps called Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout to replace him, according to Anadolu Agency.
Pogba, 28, previously joined his compatriots in France’s Clairefontaine training complex to prepare for their next 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying group fixtures against Kazakhstan and Finland.
He was injured during shooting practice on Monday and withdrew from training in Clairefontaine.
Pogba immediately left the pitch and was accompanied by Franck Le Gall, the French national team doctor.
Meanwhile, Manchester United said Pogba will be back to Manchester for treatment and evaluation.
One of the main pillars in the France squad, Pogba helped Les Bleus win the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Les Bleus will first face Kazakhstan in Paris on Saturday and will then visit Finland in Helsinki on Nov. 16 to complete the European qualifiers.
