Sik, Kuala Muda hit with flash foods following two-hour downpour

ALOR SETAR – A two-hour downpour which began late this evening has caused several areas in the Sik and Kuala Muda districts to be flooded.

A spokesman for the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (CDF) Kedah said in Sik, three villages, namely Kampung Landai, Kampung Pinang and Kampung Melaka were affected, causing 30 victims to be evacuated to the relief centre at SK Gulau which opened at 10.30 pm

“Two families were trapped in Kampung Landai as the walls of their houses collapsed, however the victims were successfully evacuated with the help of firefighters and villagers,” he said.

In the Kuala Muda district, two mukims (sub-districts) were affected, including Gurun, where three villages were affected, namely Kampung Cengai Sungai Ibor, Kampung Sungai Bongkok and Kampung Batu 3.

“Another mukim affected is Semeling, where as many as 20 houses were involved in the floods in Kampung Sungai Tok Pawang,” he said.

According to him, no relief centres had been opened so far in the Kuala Muda district where it is currently drizzling, and the water level which was previously between 0.3 to 0.5 metres, is receding.

Meanwhile, floods are believed to have occurred in the Yan district involving several areas, of which videos were spread on social media, however, there is no official information about the incident so far.
