9,985 summonses issued for fancy number plates

JOHOR BAHRU – Johor police issued 9,985 summonses to motorists for using registration number plates which did not meet specifications or fancy from January until today.

Johor Police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said more operations would be held under Op Khas from today until Dec 31 to clamp down on motorists who failed to adhere to the requirements.

“Anyone who uses fancy numbers, change quickly…don’t wait until we take action,” he told reporters after visiting traffic summonses payment counters at the Johor Bahru Utara Police headquarters here today.

Meanwhile, he said a total of RM9.6 million traffic summonses had not been settled from 2000 until Nov 30.

He said, for the period, a total of RM13.39 million summonses was registered with RM3.6 million compound fines being paid.

Ayob Khan said most of the summonses issued were for traffic offences under the Automatic Enforcement System (AES).

He said those with outstanding summonses are urged to take advantage of the 50 per cent discount offered by the Johor Contingent Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department starting today until Dec 31, from 8 am until 3.30 pm.

He added that a total of RM152,720 in traffic summonses was collected on the first day of the discount offer involving a total of 1,050 individuals.
