KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) President Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin has called on the Muslim football fraternity to reject extremist elements.

At a time when Islamophobia is widespread in the Western world, he said the Muslim football fraternity should take Prophet Muhammad as the model in bringing blessings to the world in conjunction with this year’s Maulidur Rasul celebration themed ‘Ummah Rabbani, Negara Harmoni’.

He said the concept of ‘rahmatan lil alamin’ (a mercy to all creations) has been clearly stated in the Quran through verse 107, Surah al-Anbiya’ which means: “We did not send you O Muhammad except as a mercy to the world”.

“This verse clearly shows that Prophet Muhammad SAW was sent to bring a message of mercy covering all beings, humans, jinn, animals, plants and others. Let us emulate his practices in our daily lives by rejecting all forms of extremism.

“Alhamdulillah, we extend our infinite gratitude to Allah SWT because with His bounty and grace, we can celebrate Maulidur Rasul, albeit under a different atmosphere than before (due to COVID-19),” he said in a statement.
