2020 edition of WCEM to go digital

KUALA LUMPUR – Experts from 25 countries will be sharing their insights on the importance of exercise in fighting non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through the 4th World Conference on Exercise Medicine (WCEM) 2020 which will be held via webinar for the first time starting October until November.

Its organising chairman Datuk Seri Jessy Lai said the conference, which will be held for free, will see five workshops and 44 keynote sessions which will deliberate, among others, topics concerning exercise in the prescribed form which can reduce the prevalence of NCDs.

“As we all know, COVID-19 will be around until a vaccine is found. To avoid the risk of infection, it is important to lead a healthy lifestyle and to exercise properly to boost immunity within ourselves to fight deadly viruses like the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“The WCEM is very timely at a time where COVID-19 took a toll on global economy by sending a strong message to people to stay safe and stay healthy by engaging in exercises,” she told Bernama.

WCEM 2020, which will be co-organised with the Ministry of Health, will be held via webinar from Oct 20-21, Oct 27-28, Nov 3 -4, and Nov 10-11.

The opening of the event, which is scheduled to begin at 1.20 pm on Oct 20, will cover topics like NCD and COVID-19, Exercise and Immune System to Prevent Infection, Exercise and Cancer Cells Proliferation, Exercise and Chemotherapy, and Exercise Oncology in Prostate Cancer: A Urologist Point of View.

The first WCEM was held in Langkawi, Kedah, in 2017, where experts from 25 nations shared their research findings.
