Morocco has witnessed a increase in protests and boycott activities in solidarity with Palestine, particularly on Palestine Solidarity Day.

Since October 7, Moroccans have been gathering weekly to express their support for Gaza, making Morocco the fifth country globally with the highest number of pro-Palestine protests since the commencement of Israel’s war on Gaza.

On Solidarity Day with Palestine, thousands of Moroccans took to the streets to reiterate their demands for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the cancellation of normalization with Israel.

Jamal El-Asri, a member of the Moroccan Front Against Normalization, emphasized the need to sever all ties with the “fascist Zionist entity” in response to the sentiments expressed by millions in marches across Rabat, Tangiers, and Casablanca.

In Rabat, hundreds participated in a sit-in organized by the Pro-Palestine Front, chanting for the opening of Rafah crossing and condemning the normalization deal with Israel.

Similar demonstrations occurred in over twenty cities throughout Morocco. In Casablanca, protesters targeted stores and companies complicit in Israel’s illegal settlements.

Members of BDS Morocco attempted to stage a sit-in outside a Carrefour store, denouncing the French retail company’s involvement in what they perceive as Israeli war crimes, settler-colonialism, and apartheid.

The ongoing Israeli bombing of Gaza has prompted more Moroccans to join the boycott campaign.

Some are extending their boycott to companies that expressed support for Tel Aviv’s actions on social media.

Since October 7, Morocco has seen consistent weekly rallies for Palestine, reflecting the nation’s steadfast refusal to normalize relations with Israel.

Morocco officially normalized ties with Israel in late 2020 under US auspices.

Despite the ongoing conflict and the departure of Israeli officials from Morocco, the Moroccan government has not clarified the current status of its relations with Tel Aviv.
