SHAH ALAM – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has reversed his decision not to defend his position, announcing that he will contest for another term.

During the party’s annual general assembly, Muhyiddin stated that the next party election next year would be his final time defending the post.

Muhyiddin shared a text message from his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, expressing that the party still needs him and encouraging him to stay for another term.

The announcement received a standing ovation from delegates, with chants of ‘hidup abah’ (long live abah).

Initially proposing to become the party’s advisor, Muhyiddin suggested establishing a presidential council to allow him to contribute to the party’s direction even if he were not the president.

However, this proposal was rejected by delegates who emphasized the need for Muhyiddin to continue as the president.

The Bersatu annual general assembly unanimously passed a motion rejecting Muhyiddin’s earlier decision not to defend his post.

Additionally, delegates passed motions rejecting the supreme council members from holding meetings to discuss potential candidates for Muhyiddin’s successors and declaring the current assembly as Muhyiddin’s final one as president.
