PUTRAJAYA – The Qawwam Men Initiative (ILQ) document was launched today to empower men with great leadership qualities in an effort to strengthen family and social institutions.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Idris Ahmad said the initiative was based on the framework of the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 which emphasises the building of the Keluarga Malaysia through the implementation of the Islamic Social Action Plan (PTSI).

He said the initiative was set up following several cases reported by the media regarding domestic violence as well as problems in family and social institutions that would have an impact on the country if not curbed.

“We don’t want that when we have reached a certain (stage) of material progress, this foundation (social and family institutions) is damaged to the point that we have to repair it and costing us time and money.

“Human development must start from the family. The head of the family is the man who is the pillar. With this basis, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) together with other agencies succeeded in producing this document, as a result of the round table discussion,” he told a press conference after launching the ILQ document here.

Idris said the essence of the document would be implemented soon with the cooperation of stakeholders and various agencies. – Bernama
