Dear YB, allow me to clarify.

  1. The session with Afghan/Taliban rep in Doha was a ‘dialogue’ session, arranged by MOFA Qatar upon our request;
  2. Whole world is engaging Afghan/Taliban through multiple channels of ‘dialogue’, including OIC, UN, EU, US, China etc;
  3. As per EU, “Dialogue does not imply recognition but is part of our operational engagement”.
  4. During the dialogue, both sides agreed to prioritise redevelopment & humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan;
  5. YB Special Envoy shared Malaysia’s experience in economic & social development, emphasising the need for stability and peace;
  6. Regarding recognition, YB Special Envoy conveyed Malaysia’s official stance that remains the same as stated by YB FM;
  7. As per FM, Malaysia had donated some USD100,000 to the United Nations for humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan, as well as concerted efforts with OIC & NGOs for necessary assistance;
  8. Office of the Special Envoy has been working closely with Wisma Putra, Malaysian Embassy and MOFA Qatar through out the visit.

Finally, as narrated by one hadith that the Muslim ummah is like one body, if one part is in pain, the whole body should feel that pain. So thus the feelings of our brothers in Palestine, Afghanistan, Yaman, Syria and Rohingya, that require our upmost attention and assistance.

Hope above clarifies. Thank you.

Sincerely yours,
Syahir Sulaiman
Special Envoy’s Office
