CHUKAI – Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin sees PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as having good qualifications and personality to lead the country in the future.
The former Prime Minister who is also the President of Bersatu, said the decision of PN and PAS to name the Menteri Besar of Terengganu as a candidate for the Kemaman Parliamentary by-election (PRK) is one of the steps and strategies in that direction in an effort to strengthen PN’s strength at the national level.
“It cannot be denied that there will be time, when I think it is possible that PN will create history. Our hope is definitely to win big and form a government, so all these steps taken between strategy steps.
“This will give an impression to the people as a whole that we have many intelligent figures who are capable, commendable in their attitude, professionally qualified and so on,” he told reporters after the Community Relaxation Program at Felda Kerteh 5 and 6, here today.
In the meantime, Muhyiddin is confident that a larger majority can be achieved in this by-election based on the results of the last GE15.
He believes that the voters in the Kemaman Parliament are familiar with Ahmad Samsuri who is also a member of the Ru Rendang State Legislative Assembly and one of the leaders who has a pretty good future, not only in Terengganu, but also at the central level.
Ahmad Samsuri meanwhile is urging Umno members who are not satisfied with their party leadership to support PAS in by-election on December 2.
He hopes that their support for the party will continue as in the previous election.
“Of course we expect (support) from all parties from Umno who are not satisfied with their leadership.
“Actually many (Umno members) are not satisfied. So we want them to support PAS in this Kemaman by-election,” he said when met by reporters after the Youth Stage program at Kemaman Arena Square near here recently.
When asked to comment on the claim that Perikatan Nasional (PN) is increasingly desperate to attract Umno’s support, Ahmad Samsuri stated that DAP has its own view on the issue.
“There is nothing wrong with his (DAP) view. We are in a free and independent country and everyone has the right to give their opinion.
“That is DAP’s view and PAS also has its own view… other parties also have their own views, so there is no issue,” he commented.
