KOTA BHARU – Kelantan PAS is expected to contest in state seats under the Jeli and Gua Musang parliamentary constituencies in the upcoming state elections.
PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said this was following grassroots members’ request from both districts to have elected representatives from the party there, adding that the matter has been voiced out to the Bersatu leadership as well.
“This is to keep our supporters’ and workers’ morals high. So we are asking for one seat in Jeli and one in Gua Musang because if PAS does not contest, we will not even have a seat there,” Mohd Amar, who is also Deputy Menteri Besar, told reporters here today.
Bersatu, a PAS ally in Perikatan Nasional (PN), had previously been given the green light to challenge incumbents from Barisan Nasional (BN) in the state seats under the Jeli and Gua Musang parliamentary constituencies.
However, yesterday, Kelantan PAS secretary Wan Roslan Wan Hamat confirmed that the party will contest 39 state seats in the state polls as opposed to the 37 agreed upon during earlier discussions after getting Bersatu’s approval.
In Jeli, the Bukit Bunga and Kuala Balah state seats and currently held by BN and Ayer Lanas by Bersatu, while in Gua Musang, all three seats, namely Nenggiri, Paloh and Galas were won by BN in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Kelantan has 45 state seats, with PAS holding 37, BN (7) and Bersatu (1). – Bernama
