ALOR SETAR – Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC head coach Mohd Nafuzi Mahammad Zain wants his charges to immediately overcome their weaknesses to ensure they remain among the top teams of the Super League until the end of the season.
He said the players must constantly work on improving their understanding and performance as they enter the second round of the league, which is expected to be more intense.
“Tonight is not the end, and we know there are still many twists and turns in the journey. What is important is that we have to improve, and all weaknesses in terms of understanding and performance must be addressed immediately.
“We all know the second round will be more challenging, so the players must work harder and try to overcome those weaknesses as soon as possible. Everyone must stay focused,” he told a press conference after his team’s 2-1 win over Sabah FC at Stadium Darul Aman here last night.
KDA FC are now in the third position in the 14-team Super League standings with 25 points from 13 matches.
Mohd Nafuzi said that despite achieving the target in last night’s match, the Canaries would face a tougher challenge in the next match against Perak FC on June 7.
“Tonight’s game was one of the best in terms of possession, passing, and the players were quick to get the ball back. I’m happy that the team was able to bounce back from going a goal down to seal a 2-1 victory,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sabah FC head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee said the experience and individual skills possessed by KDA FC and the absence of key player Jailton Lorenco Da Silva, who was stretchered out due to injury, affected his team’s performance.
“Kedah has players with good quality, especially in one-on-one situations, and they can trouble our defenders. So, we have to concede that they deserved to win,” he said. – Bernama
