THT, TNB set up TNB Cup title showdown

KUALA LUMPUR – Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) checked into the 2023 TNB Cup final in contrasting fashions after the semi-finals, return-leg matches at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil tonight.

While THT downed UiTM HA-KPT 3-1 for an 8-2 aggregate, TNB needed a penalty shootout to gun down Maybank 3-0 after both teams were tied 3-3 in regulation time and 5-5 on aggregate.

THT’s easy win will see coach Seo Jongho’s men closing in on a treble, having already clinched the Charity Shield and the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) Premier Division title, this season.

In today’s THT versus UiTM HA-KPT match, the Terengganu side got their goals through South Korean Jang Jonghyun (14th minute), Shello Silverius (45th minute) and Faizal Saari (56th minute) while their opponents replied through a Danial Asyraf Abdul Ghani field goal in the 51st minute.

THT had trounced UiTM HA-KPT 5-1 in the first leg of the semi-finals on Tuesday (March 14).

Earlier, defending champions Negeri Sembilan drew 1-1 with Terengganu-MSNT in the women’s semi-finals, second-leg match but still go through to the final of the Vivian May Soars Cup with a 5-2 aggregate win.

Waiting for Negeri Sembilan will be KPT-Uniten Thunder, who edged the Young Tigress 1-0 in the return leg today for a 3-1 aggregate win.
