KUALA LUMPUR – There has been a reduction in the rate of offences involving motorcyclists in the capital during the four days of the operation codenamed ‘Op Motosikal Khas’ held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festive period, compared to the one held last year.
Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Mohd Zaki Ismail said the biggest drop involved offences such as not having a driving licence or expired motor vehicle licences.
Mohd Zaki said over the four days, a total of 236 summonses were issued to those who did not have a driver’s license, compared to 1,130 in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, 251 summonses were issued due to expired motor vehicle licenses compared to 1,214 last year.
“This decrease shows that motorcyclists in Kuala Lumpur have a high awareness of traffic laws and it is something that deserves praise,” he said in a press conference after observing the operation at the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza here tonight.
Commenting on tonight’s operation, Mohd Zaki said his party issued 164 summonses for various offenses as well as several notices.
“Tonight’s operation involved a total of personnel from Kuala Lumpur JPJ and three other agencies, namely the National Anti-Drug Agency, the Department of Environment and the Immigration Department,” he said. – Bernama
