KUALA TERENGGANU – The 5G network rollout in Terengganu is expected to begin next year, according to State Tourism, Culture and Digital Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman.
He said based on the state government’s discussion with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the 5G network rollout in the state will begin in nine selected locations, namely at Wisma Darul Iman, Building TD1303, the new Kuala Terengganu City Council building, Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Urban Transformation Centre, Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC) Mall, Payang Market, Mayang Mall in Kuala Terengganu, and the Kuala Nerus Administrative Centre.
“The coverage for other locations will be implemented in stages,” he said when winding up the debate on the state’s 2023 Budget at the State Assembly sitting at Wisma Darul Iman here today.
In another development, Ariffin said the state government has never forgotten the projects under the previous Barisan Nasional government and has taken various initiatives to ensure that these projects can be completed.
For example, he said the state government would also convene a meeting with the Economic Planning Unit, Tourism Department and Terengganu Tengah Development Authority (Ketengah) to discuss the development of sick projects in Pulau Bayas located in Kenyir, such as a jetty terminal, Kenyir Trade Centre and power substation projects.
Meanwhile, State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Dr Alias Razak said the state government, through the Vape Sales Enforcement Coordination Meeting on June 16, has agreed to take several initiatives to control the sales of electronic cigarettes and the opening of outlets selling vaping devices in Terengganu.
“Over the past six months, we have also convened a series of meetings with those outlet operators to inform them of the state government’s goals in the enforcement of a ban on vape-selling activities,” he said.
