PPZ-MAIWP aims to collect RM210 mln in tite through YEZ campaign

KUALA LUMPUR – The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) is targeting RM210 million in zakat (tithe) collection through the 2022 Year End Zakat (YEZ) campaign from today till Dec 31.

Its chief executive officer Abdul Hakim Amir Osman said that with the theme of ‘Memberi Tanda Syukur’, the campaign was launched to encourage and facilitate zakat payers to fulfil their responsibilities before the end of this year.

He said PPZ-MAIWP has provided various facilities such as extending the operating hours of zakat payment counters until 9 pm on every Friday, an appointment booking system through the Mytemujanji portal as well as payment through the MyZakat application.

“In the economic situation that is less than desirable and the global economic crisis, let us all pay zakat to help the less fortunate community.

“The YEZ campaign is also held to enable zakat payers to get an income tax rebate,” he said at the launch of the campaign at a shopping mall here today.

Various interesting activities have been lined up to encourage more people to pay zakat, including a lucky draw with up to 500 prizes, field trips to meet asnaf (tithe recipients) and talk show programmes about the benefits of zakat.

At today’s ceremony, PPZ-MAIWP also presented donations of goods and food worth RM100 to 100 asnaf in the Setiawangsa People’s Housing Project area.

Meanwhile, PPZ-MAIWP chairman Tan Sri Dr Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman disclosed that zakat collection in the Federal Territories has amounted to RM667 million so far and is expected to reach RM900 million by the end of this year with the implementation of YEZ.

“Looking at this positive trend, we project zakat collection to reach RM1 billion next year,” he said. – Bernama
