KUALA LUMPUR – Having known footballer Thierry Henry only through television, eight-year-old Mitrran Vijey did not expect to get the chance to team up with the French legend for a video clip of a song in conjunction with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The five-minute, 46-second video titled ‘Be Like Him’, which aired last month, has garnered more than 5.6 million views on Youtube.

Meeting the former Arsenal and Barcelona player in person and performing football action and skills like the legend was an unforgettable experience and will be a sweet memory for the rest of his life.

“My only worry during the filming was where I was required to shout at him, I hope I did not rile him up.

“Henry is a delight and I did not miss the opportunity to get an autograph, take a picture and give him a souvenir in the form of the Petronas Twin Towers building after the filming session,” he said when met here today.

Henry, 44, considered one of the greatest strikers of all time with exceptional scoring skills, once helped France emerge as 1998 World Cup champions, and is now the coach of the Belgian national team.

Meanwhile, Mitrran’s father, Vijey Esvaran, 45, said his son’s involvement in filming with Henry was like a dream come true.

“Initially a production company came to Junior FM Football Academy and asked the students to submit a two-minute video containing sad, scared, angry scenes and some other actions.

“The selection took place in early March, after which Mitrran was selected for the next stage, where there was a physical audition session,” he said.

Vijay added that Mitrran was chosen from 10 other children as the main character in the video clip and started the filming session a few days later in Rawang, Selangor and then in London last April.

“Filming was done at London’s Hype Stadium in very cold and windy conditions, however, Mitrran managed to complete the shoot successfully,” he said.

The work is the result of hip hop artist Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, and also features Sarawakian singer Priscilla Abby.
