KUALA LUMPUR – In conjunction with World Oceans Day 2022, Aquaria KLCC, via its one-day event ‘Aquaria Zero Pollution’ today, is promoting zero pollution as a necessity to save the oceans and also raising awareness of the importance of sustainable management of the world’s oceans.
Thirty children from Q-dees Sri Hartamas took part in the event, where they were treated to an underwater mermaid show, titled ‘Danger to the Beauty’, which tells of the negative impact plastic waste in the ocean has on marine life, among other interactive activities.
Aquaria KLCC executive director Daryl Foong said their mission through the event is to educate, inspire and generate love and empathy for the ocean among children, as they are the future generation with the ability to discover permanent solutions, such as new materials or methods to effectively replace plastic as a readily available utility.
“Children are the easiest to educate about the environment. For the rest of us as adults, our responsibility is to think for the children, as well as generations to come, step up and try to make a difference,” he told reporters here today.
Daryl added that small changes lead to big impacts if done by every individual, such as choosing not to use plastic bags or drinking from a cup rather than using straws.
“We must take action to conserve and preserve the ocean to secure a safe, sustainable and healthy environment for future generations,” he said.
World Oceans Day 2022 is celebrated every June 8, to appreciate oceans across the globe with the theme ‘Revitalising: Collective Action for the Ocean’.
