KUALA LUMPUR – Police detained a man and his son yesterday on suspicion of being involved in a wedding package scam.

He said that the woman sought the services of the wedding planner company around May last year as she was interested in wedding packages offered, including hall, catering, wedding dress and photographer.

The woman paid a deposit of RM7,265 for the service but it was not delivered as promised for her wedding, and she lodged a police report on Jan 3, said Mohd Mahidisham in a statement.

He also said that the two men have been remanded for four days starting yesterday, and the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for fraud.

Based on the investigation, the police suspected that there were many more victims, and asked them to come forward to lodge a police report, he said.

He also advised people not to offer services or sell goods if they do not have the means (to deliver), and not to arbitrarily use COVID-19 as a reason to customers if they fail to fulfil their promises.
