SEREMBAN – Being diagnosed with autism has been no barrier for Ahmad Zahiruddin Zailani, 25, who recently obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Quranic and Multimedia Studies from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).

Graduating with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.20, Ahmad Zahiruddin said the key to his success was the support and encouragement from his parents, having a positive attitude and using his condition as a motivator to succeed.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we underwent online learning and teaching, and I saw that teachers taught mostly orally, instead of using teaching materials such as videos and slides.

“As such, when undergoing industrial training at the USIM Ibnu Ummi Maktum Research Centre (UMMI), I succeeded in producing over 40 live streaming videos to help me understand the subject of Syariah and Usuluddin,” he said in a statement issued by USIM here, today.

The eldest of five siblings also succeeded in memorising the entire Quran while doing his diploma, and often spent his time revising his lessons and the Quran at the USIM Mosque during his free time.

On his future plans, Ahmad Zahiruddin said he aspired to continue with a Master’s degree in Special Education next year, and become a technology specialist in religion to help those with special needs.

A total 2,560 graduates received their scrolls during USIM’s 19th convocation ceremony which took place from Nov 23 to 30.
