KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s pioneering Technology Transfer Apprenticeship Programme (TTAP) and its four local engineering apprentices are gearing up for the 2021 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season finale in Bahrain, starting today until Saturday.

The race, which consisted of two back-to-back endurance races is currently being held at the Bahrain International Circuit.

All TTAP apprentices will be part of the championship-contenting JOTA team, fighting for the 2021 World Endurance Championship Driver’s and Team’s titles.

Most recently, the apprentices have been involved in exclusive, behind-the-scenes industry placements at the McLaren and Xtrac Factories.

TTAP director Jazeman Jaafar in a statement today said they have worked hard to gain access to McLaren and Xtrac, two leading manufacturers of race cars and motorsport components, and their apprentices will no doubt have gained invaluable experience there.

“The TTAP programme has been very unique, especially within the FIA World Endurance Championship. No other team has introduced a hands-on apprenticeship programme that allows this level of access to the race and performance engineers.

“The apprentices have worked very well together and have learnt up to the level of race engineers and most importantly, are part of a championship contenting WEC team. I feel very proud as a Malaysian and I want to see more Malaysians having the chance and capability to reach such a level,” he said.

The incredible McLaren Technology Centre played host to the TTAP programme, with the apprentices not only immersed in the heritage of the McLaren brand but gained exclusive insight into Grand Prix- winning technology at the world-class facility.

Xtrac, a renowned motorsports gearbox manufacturer and supplier for JOTA’s WEC efforts in LMP2, was the next stop for the TTAP programme in which they were granted access to their top-secret production facility in Berkshire, England, for an in-depth tour on design stages of gearbox, stress testing and overall production.
