JOHOR BAHRU – Tunku Mahkota Johor (TMJ) Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has urged the state’s group of volunteers known as Southern Volunteers to be mobilised at vaccination centres to assist frontliners in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The non-governmental organisation was set up last year to lead volunteer activities, especially involving the state youths.

Tunku Ismail said the state youths should also play their part to curb the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak especially now when the number of daily positive cases and deaths continue to increase.

Through a post on his official Facebook, Tunku Ismail said one of the ways youths could help is by volunteering in the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme by spreading correct information about the vaccines as well as encouraging their family members and friends to sign up for the vaccination, among others.

He also urged the mobilisation of Southern Volunteers to assist the immunisation exercise by helping the people of Johor to register for the COVID-19 vaccination.

“I hope that Southern Volunteers can encourage the youth to play a bigger role in curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hopefully, the role of Southern Volunteers can be optimised to help make the vaccination programme a success and increase its effectiveness,” he said.

Covid-19 hotline, observation centre

Kelantan United FC (KUFC) in a related development, have opened a hotline and a COVID-19 observation centre to observe and receive reports regarding any infection among club officials, coaches and players.

KUFC Sdn Bhd executive director Anas Karimi Ahmad Thani said the club prioritised the safety of team players and officials during the outbreak.

He said the measure was mooted by KUFC president Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi.

“This initiative will make it easy for us to channel news and information immediately from the Malaysia Football League (MFL), the Youth and Sports Ministry, the National Security Council and the Health Ministry to everyone in KUFC.

“We are confident that our players and officials always comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the government and the MFL,” he said in a statement today.

Anas Karimi said the club’s president always emphasised that the company should look after the welfare of players and officials.

Therefore he said KUFC Sdn Bhd was confident that the initiative would help the company identify any infection among its players and staff in a timely manner.

“We have requested players and officials to immediately report to the company if they or any close family members are confirmed positive. They need to report it and be transparent and honest with their employer, KUFC Sdn Bhd.

“This will facilitate the company to channel aid if needed. It will also enable us to refer the matter to the local authorities for further action,” he added.
